Tomorrow's Spirit Day

Tomorrow is pj day.  The kindergarten children are invited to wear there pjs and a favourite book.  I have told the children not to bring toys as we may loose them and that would be very sad.  It is also family literacy day.  So if you can try and read for 15 minutes.  That is a challenge put forth by the Calgary public library.

Scholastic Orders

Okay parents.  I have finally set up online payments for you in scholastic.  Here is a picture of what it says you need to do.  Hope you enjoy buying some new great books.  There is an order form in your child's homework bag.

"N" and "I"

We have now finished learning the letters 'Nn' and "Ii".  We had a great deal of fun using the playdough to make the letters as well as the sand.  Please enjoy the songs.

The song is attached here.  Letter 'N'

Looking for People to come in

Hello,

Parents we are working on are I am unique unit.  As a part of this I really like to have parents come in and talk about what they do for "work".  If you do something you would like to share with the class please contact me.  In the past I have had stay at home parents come in, fire fighters, police officers, office managers, construction workers.  I would ask that you maybe talk to the kids for about ten minutes or so and bring in anything you might use to do your job/work.  We are looking to start this in February.  Please email me as soon as possible to a day and time you would be willing to come in. If you are willing to do both classes as well please let me know that when you email me.

Thank you in advance for all your help in this.  We look forward to seeing you.

* This Friday it is the morning Kindergarten students turn to come in.

Working on Comparing Different Books

We have started to read some of the Jillian Jiggs books as a class.  We are talking about the things that are the same and different "Making Text to Text connections".  Here is our first chart below.

We introduced some "BIG" words for kindergarten.  One of the first was characters.  In both of these books there were 4 characters that were the same.  I added pictures that hopefully the children will remember and can have fun explaining the two books to you.

Just a reminder that Friday is an early dismissal day.  It is the afternoon kindergarten children that will be coming in.

Welcome Back

I was so happy to see all the kids today.  They also had a great deal of fun finding their new name tags (snowmen and penguins).  You may have seen the new homework project in your child's backpack.  Please don't feel any rush to complete it.  If you do one a day you should be able to finish it in tons of time.  Once they are complete we will be sharing them in class.  If you do end up finishing it early please feel free to send it in at any point.

There were a few new centres set up while the kids were away.  The two things they were most excited for were the hospital/doctor centre and the new to our room Lego.

Before the break we did some journals on what we would like to do in the new year.  Please see the pictures below.  At this point in the year we are working on copying print correctly from the board or on a white board on the table (Next year I want to), adding details to our pictures, making sure our pictures are understandable and beginning to sound out words.  Looking at the examples below you can see that different children are at different points in this process.
