Happy 100 Day!!!

It was a very busy day today.  It was non stop.  We had fun talking about what we might look like when we are 100.  We decided we might have "those line things" (wrinkles), might use canes or wheel chairs, some people even went bald.  Each child then drew a picture of what they might look like.  The next thing we did was made our 100 day hats.

"Put this on the blog" he said

PM Kindergarten
Then we started making our 100 dot painting and comparing whose 100 things were big and whose were small.  We liked how 100 looked different for all of them.  We also had fun eating our treats sent in by some families.

Mission Impossible and This Week

For the next two weeks we will be doing mission impossible in gym.  (Gymnastics equipment)  I am asking that girls try and stay away from dresses or at least have pants on under as we will be climbing and jumping all over the place.

Tomorrow is our 100 day celebration.  Can you believe it, we are 100 days smarter already?  If your child has not yet counted out the 100 things they are going to bring please do so tonight.  Also they are allowed to dress up for this special day as there are some special things planned.

Pink/Purple/Red shirt day is on Wednesday.  This is to bring awareness to the anti bullying campaign started buy children from Canada.  It also happens to be pizza day for those that are participating.

Spirit Day and Next Week 100 Day celebration

Friday the 19th is our next Spirit Day: Fabulous Fan Friday.

This is not meant to be just a "Jersey Day", as not all our students are sports fans who own jerseys/team shirts.

Rather, it's a day to celebrate anything that you're a "fan" of:
  • a sports team
  • a singer or band
  • a colour
  • a movie series set long ago in a galaxy far, far away...
  • a car, pine cone, anything you like
  • one of the kids said a banana or candy

Whatever you like!

Be creative and have fun!

Tuesday the 23rd is our 100 day celebration.

Please help your child gather 100 things to bring in for that day.  If you would like them back please put your child's name on them.  We have been counting up by groups of 10.

They can also dress up for this day as we are talking about the fact that we will be 100 days smarter than before.  Any other questions please just email me.

Thank you for all your help. Sorry if you will be walking around the neighbourhood to find 100 pine cones as I am sure someone will be.

Chinese New Year & Valentine's Day

The children had a great deal of fun last week learning about Chinese New Year.  The found out that red and gold are special colours in the Chinese culture.  They learnt that there were dragons to scare away the "bad" spirits.  The morning class I am sure scared a few people with their masks.

"Roar"
We also had fun with our Valentine's celebration.  We practiced reading all the different cards.  It was so much fun to see the different cards we received.

Valentine's Day and 100 Day Celebration

The kids are very excited about Valentine's Day and our 100 Day Celebration.  As Valentine's Day falls on a day we won't be in school we will be celebrating on Wednesday, February 10th.  I will be sending home list of the children's names on Monday.  That way they can personally address the cards if they like.  If you would like to send in treats for the kids to share that would be fine as well.

The other thing you may have heard a lot about from your child is our 100 day celebration.  We are celebrating being 100 days smarter.  I have talked a little bit about this with them.  The job for the kids on that day will be to try and bring in 100 of something (grains of rice, marbles, stickers, etc). We talk about counting to 10 ten times to get to 100.  If they like they can also dress up in something special for that day.

Please remember that we have no school on Thursday and Friday for Teacher's Convention.  We also have no school on Monday for Family Day.  Home reading needs to be returned Wednesday this week.

Art is fun and so is the letter G

This week we finished up a couple of art projects we are working on.  The first was crayon resist art.  For this the students had to draw a picture with crayons.  Pushing really hard.  Then we add water colour with lots of water only a little paint.  They look wonderful.

The other art project we worked on was tear paper art.  We made some great snowman pictures.  It was tricky to rip all the paper we needed to make the pictures.  Look at some of them below.

WE had a said a sad good-bye to our morning friend Juna.  She has moved back to Kosovo.  We took a little pretend trip to see what it looks like there through Google.   Then all the children asked if we could go look at where Iona is.  We did a Google trip to New Zealand.  We found out it would take longer to get to Iona than it would to Juna's house.  In the afternoon, some kids asked me why I was taking off the name tag so I told them.  We then also went on a Google trip to Kosov, Red Deer, Edmonton, Ontario and British Columbia.

This week was the letter "G g".  WE made a huge list of words and had fun singing the song.  One of the biggest laughs we had was drawing the gorilla.  The kids were also very happy to take home their groundhog craft.
