There were a few forms handed in with no names on them. If you think one of them may be yours could you please email me so we can make sure your child gets the pizza that you paid for.
We are also dressing in orange and black on Wednesday. My guess is to hide the pizza sauce on our shirts and faces. Please send your child in their costume if you would like on Thursday. If you are doing this please don't send along any accessories that they may take off as I would not want them to be sad that they do not have it for Halloween.

Home Reading and Halloween Celebration
Please make sure to send in all home reading books on Thursday this week (I take it all home to put in new books on the weekend). They are the little paper books that come home in the plastic bag. If you have lost your home reading log please let me know. It is very important to keep track of how they are doing with the different books that are sent home.
We will be wearing our costumes on Thursday. If you would like to send in a treat to share with the other children please ensure that there are ingredients lists if you would like them to share at school so that I can make sure that no one will have any allergic reactions. We currently have 23 students in the morning and 21 in the afternoon. On that day we will do a few Halloween themed activities.

Butterfield Acres Trip
The children had a great time at Butterfield Acres Farm. They were all very tired on the way back to school. The children started by walking up the hill and then they took a little tractor ride to the location where we hunted for the pumpkins in the trees.
After everyone found their own pumpkin we went on to the decorating houses. The first room had markers for us to use to colour with. The next room had a variety of things they could glue on to their pumpkins.
Then it was time to go and see all the different animals. From what the children said they like the pigs and the goats because they tried to escape. They also had fun petting the bunnies and sheep.

Learning the Letter F
This week we are working on learning the letter "F f". We have started singing the simple song as well as making a list of words that start with "F f". The classes each came up with 13 words that start with that letter but they were not all the same.
We also did a guided drawing of animal that starts with the letter "F". Can you guess what it is?
A fox! We have also been working on adding details to our drawings. You may start hearing that things don't fly and that is why we put some ground under them.

I want to thank all of the amazing volunteers today for making are field trip amazing. I think all of the children had a good time and I have set up all the pumpkins in the classroom so we can do a walk around tomorrow and see how we each decorated the pumpkins. I will start sending them home on Friday so you can have them in your home. FRIDAY IS EARLY DISMISSAL. Only morning kindergartens are to come in. If your child comes in the afternoon their pumpkin will be sent home on Monday. (Pictures from the trip will follow)
Two Reminders
1. PICTURE DAY TOMORROW! Have them wear something nice. I promise to try and fix any hair that I see (ponytails falling out, crazy bed head) as well as wash faces.

More Apple Fun
We continue to look at apples and used them to measure each other. One person in the group would lay down on the ground and then the others would put apple pictures beside them. We then counted the apples as a group and each person wrote down how many apples tall they are.

Next we all sat down as a group and did a taste test. Yummy! We counted to three and then popped a small piece of apple in our mouth. We tried to decide which apple we like the best. So many of the children do a good job of remembered the name of the apple they liked the best. As we cut into the apple we could see the core of the apple which was kind of an oval shape when you cut one way, but when you cut the other way we saw a star. After talking about the taste being sweet, tart, tangy (all words from the children) we picked the apple we liked the best and coloured a paper apple that colour. We laid them out on the carpet to see which apples were liked the most and which were liked the least. We learnt another big word, Pictograph! It is just a fancy graph where we use pictures to represent numbers (easier for us to count and analyze).

Sink or Float
We continued our apple study. We worked as a large group to figure out if apples float or sink. First we made predictions (our best guess) and then we experimented with the real apples. There were a few children that thought the Red Delicious apple would sink because it was heavier than the other two apples.
We tried them one at a time and as we reached the last apple J said, "It's gonna float cause the other ones floated."
After we finished with the apples it was time to try and find other things in the room to experiment with. We found different toys and tried out all of them. We found out that a plastic cup sinks (when full of water) and floats (when empty). We tried multiple different toys and came upon a dinosaur when asked if it would sink or float L said, "It's gonna sink cause it has a open mouth and the stuff (water) is gonna go in." He was right.

The Apple Study
We have started learning about apples and the harvest of food in the fall. We started by putting on our "scientist" hat and using 3 of our senses to explore the apples (sight, touch, smell). The three types of apples were Granny Smith, Red Delicious and McIntosh. We started by writing down the things that we could see (I added photos beside the words to help us remember what each one said). Then we compared the apples to see what was the same and what was different.

The Letter A a
This week we are working on the letter "A a". We put together a list of words that start with the letter "A". We have also been practising our song. Take a listen to the kids singing. Some of them are a very excited.
We also practised printing the letter and drew a picture of an ant together (they were pretty interesting looking). We talked about adding details to our drawings and that ants do not float in the air.

Printing Strokes and Home Reading
This past week we finished all the beginning printing strokes. They had the most fun learning "short vertical with a tail". We stood up to practise it we would bend our knees and then shake our bums and pretend we had a tail and laugh as we wagged it back and forth. You can find examples of all of the lines below.
Home reading will be coming home this week. Please check your child's backpack. There is a recording sheet with the decodable book. These books emphasis the reading strategy of looking at the picture for conformation of the words/meaning.
Swimming Fun
The children had a great deal of fun swimming this past week. There was a lot of laughs had by the children on the bus and at the pool as we misplaced shirts, underwear and many other things. The last day was a fun party in the pool. Some went down the little slide into the water and others jumped off the little diving board.

This past week
This was a very busy week for us in Kindergarten. We learnt two new printing strokes (diagonal down and the clock which some call a circle). It was also are very first swimming class. We all did a wonderful job listening at the pool. It is fun to learn to swim. The hardest part for us was changing. The tights, fitted pants and socks were tricky to get on when we were still a little wet. The children who have never taken a ride on a school bus were very excited. This coming week we will continue to swim and learn more printing strokes.
