Sink or Float

We continued our apple study.  We worked as a large group to figure out if apples float or sink.  First we made predictions (our best guess) and then we experimented with the real apples. There were a few children that thought the Red Delicious apple would sink because it was heavier than the other two apples.

We tried them one at a time and as we reached the last apple J said, "It's gonna float cause the other ones floated."

After we finished with the apples it was time to try and find other things in the room to experiment with.  We found different toys and tried out all of them.  We found out that a plastic cup sinks (when full of water) and floats (when empty).  We tried multiple different toys and came upon a dinosaur when asked if it would sink or float L said, "It's gonna sink cause it has a open mouth and the stuff (water) is gonna go in."  He was right.
